"Der Mensch ist, was er isst." - "Man is what he eats."
- Ludwig Feuerbach (1804-1872)

Quite literally, the molecules that were once our food become
the structure and function of our human form. They were born in a
tiny seed, nurtured in a bed of clay, fed by the light of a star. The
clay is ancient, the light is now, intimacy with the food is our future.

What is Community Supported Agriculture (CSA)? Back to Top

CSA is a movement to bring farm producers and community members into a more direct and cooperative relationship. The concept migrated to the US from Japan in the mid-1980's and has grown to include some 1,000 farms and 100,000 community supporters throughout the US and Canada today. Community "members" subscribe to a weekly share of produce from a local farm, which is delivered to a convenient "site" in the member's neighborhood. This relationship facilitates both financial support for a small farm's community and provides supporting members with fresh and unique produce to which they would otherwise have less access.

T & D Willey Farms' CSA will deliver fresh, seasonal produce weekly throughout the year! The contents of the box will mirror the seasonal availability of the San Joaquin Valley and will vary from week to week. Each CSA box will be accompanied by our newsletter, What's Growin' On. It will offer recipe ideas, storage and preservation tips for featured seasonal produce, news of the farm, and of the world of food and agriculture beyond. Each week your box will be delivered to your designated delivery site.

BulletYou receive very fresh produce. We deliver most produce within 24 hours of harvest, assuring your food will be nutritious and delicious. The average food item in supermarkets has traveled 1300 miles since harvest. This results in a focus on extending shelf life rather than the flavor or nutrition of food. Even local produce may be shipped to central warehouse facilities before it arrives in a neighborhood grocery store.

BulletYou are introduced to new varieties of seasonal produce. We grow superior and unique varieties not available in mass market grocery outlets. Our newsletter is filled with creative ideas on how to prepare and store your fresh produce. For families that just can't get enough of a good thing, we offer .Organic Abundance. in addition to your family.s weekly box. Abundant seasonal produce items are offered in quantity by special order. This is a bonus for people who love to do canning, make juice, or share with friends and family.

Bullet You will know where, how, and by whom your food is grown. More information emerges daily linking health to diet and the quality and freshness of the food we eat. The choice of your family’s farmer is as important as choosing your pastor, your doctor or your lawyer. We take the responsibility of growing your family's produce very seriously.

To enrich your experience, farm visits are welcome - we have an annual farm day where we invite you and your family for a farm tour and festivities.

Seeing the Farmer's Face on the Vegetables
"Teikei" Japanese word meaning "Seeing the farmer's face on the vegetables"

Bullet Your money goes directly to a family farm. Every dollar of your share goes directly to the farm. A similar purchase at a supermarket may return a farmer as little as 20 cents on the dollar. By participating in T&D Willey's CSA you are supporting the farm’s community of year-round employees who are able to be paid steady and reasonable wages. Your financial support is a vote for organic, family-based farms as the backbone of our agricultural production system.

Bullet Enjoying food and fellowship at the table is the foundation of civil society, too often ignored in our fast paced world. Families are discovering home cooked meals using fresh produce can actually reduce the food budget, as they become less tolerant of mediocre dining-out experiences.

By participating in our CSA you are supporting your community and
contributing to healthy living for both your body and our planet.
