| Why Organic? | Back to Top | ![]() |
Organic agriculture is a production management system that promotes a polyculture of crops, a diverse insect ecology, and enhanced soil microbiology on a farm. It uses no toxics or synthetic materials - only those defined legally as "natural" in origin. Through extraordinary emphasis on plant health and balanced nutrition, organic agriculture can produce superior crops from fewer off-farm inputs. |
||
| How do I know your produce is organic? | Back to Top | |
"Organic" is legally protected. Use of the term "organic" is now defined and regulated by the US Department of Agriculture. Compliance with these standards of production on T&D Willey Farms is inspected and approved by the USDA-accredited California Certified Organic Farmers, one of the longest-standing private certification agencies in the nation. The "Your Assurance" link on the left-hand menu will show our latest certificate, which is updated with yearly certifications.

||
| Why is organic produce more expensive? | ||
| When you purchase an organic product, you are paying to protect the water you drink, the air you breathe, and the soil in which your food is grown. You are buying what you hope to be a more nutritious, better tasting, and residue-free fruit or vegetable. You are also paying to protect the health of farmers and farm workers.

What if I go on vacation? | |
| CSA members are limited to a maximum of five vacation holds in a year's time. Notify the CSA coordinator via phone or email at least 7 days before the vacation hold. Credits will be given in the form of box deliveries. For each week missed a delivery day will be given as follows: $20 for Family box and $15.00 for the Seedling box.
|
||
| Why do you ask for a refundable deposit? | Back to Top | |
| The first payment includes a deposit of $40.00, refundable upon timely notice of membership cancellation (7-day minimum), and return of all empty boxes. If you cancel after one year of membership, you will receive 100% of your deposit, less any outstanding balance. If you terminate before one year, 60% of the deposit is refundable, less any outstanding balance, provided you have returned all empty boxes. Once your account is open it will automatically renew. The deposit protects you from disruption in your service if your payment is a few days late, and it protects the farm from members who cancel without notifying us in a timely manner. The deposit also entitles you to order extra produce in the form of an Organic Abundance Box. For those who subscribe to two boxes, a deposit is required for each service. |

| What if I do not see a convenient delivery site in my neighborhood? | Back to Top | |
| We can start up a new location almost anywhere in the Fresno Madera area with a minimum of 15 family size boxes and 5 Seedling Size Boxes at one location. A pick up site can be at your home or work place.

||
| Do I receive fruit in my box? | Back to Top | |
| T&D Willey Farms produces a wide selection of vegetable crops. During the spring and summer months we grow strawberries and melons. In order to supplement your box with tree fruit, we will source from other local certified organic producers. This fruit will only come from growers who we know and only offer the utmost quality.

How do I know which box size is best for my family?
Take the following quiz. (Keep track of your score). 1) How many people are in your household? 2) How many nights a week do you cook? 3) How many meals do you cook at home per day? 4) How many vegetarians are in your household? 5) How many vegetable haters are in your household (count this number as a negative number)? 6) How do you view cooking? Choose from a scale of 1 to 6, 1 being the least attractive (dislike cooking) and 6 being highly attractive (you love to cook).
|
|
| Quiz Results 1-10 = Seedling Box: This size accommodates those that live alone or live with one other person; those who eat half their meals out per week; those that have a larger household but only cook once or twice per week. 11+ = Family Box: This size accommodates households of 2-4 people; those who love to cook, eat "at least five fruits and vegetables per day", and those who cook most of their meals at home. |

However, we do accept credit cards and can take your enrollment over the phone up until noon on Friday for the following week.
